We attended the first day of the Public Inquiry into the application by the Ministry of Defence to deregister 10,000 acres of common land in the Pennines, Cumbria. There was a good turnout of commoners and local residents. The arguments during the day hinged on technical legal matters and there was no explanation from the MoD as to why deregistration was necessary. The Inspector established that the Inquiry will need more than two days and it is likely that the Inquiry will reconvene at the end of October with Cumbria County Council making the decision in early December.
Julia, our Executive Director had the opportunity to give a presentation yesterday - see attached. She is attending the Inquiry today.
