A recent article in the Irish Farmers Journal explains the Department of Agriculture's plans for a completely new  management system for the 7,000 commonages across Ireland. There are 14,000 farmers with commonages rights and they will be given an overall minimum and maximum number of sheep for their commonage.  Each farmer will be given the minimum number of sheep they must graze and the maximum number they can graze to qualify not only for their single farm payment but  also the Disadvantaged Agri-environment schemes. For further detail of the proposals see the Irish Farmers Journal   or click below.
